Parent carer support groups

One of the ways you can be supported in your role as a carer is by attending parent support groups. Your child does not need a diagnosis to attend a support group.

"When I attended my first support group meeting I was a little bit nervous, but once we all got chatting and telling our stories of our little ones, I felt at ease and it was nice to hear that you are not alone with it all. We laugh, have a cup of tea, exchange ideas, and yes there has been tears, but the support and information you leave with helps you through the difficulties that we and our children face."

Ings Plus East Hull Teen Group

For young people aged 11+ who have Autism or any other special need. The group offers the chance to learn new social skills, and create new friendships whilst having fun – all within in a safe environment. Children must be accompanied by their parent/carer. Siblings are welcome to join in as they are also part of the family and support can be given. Parents are always willing to listen to any problem, give advice, help with paperwork and direct to relevant organisations.

OCD support

Support for people who are affected directly or indirectly (family and friends) by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), BDD and hoarding symptoms.  We welcome anyone aged 16 years + (under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult).

Dates: The 1st Monday of the month (except bank holidays: the 2nd Monday)

Special Mum's/Dad's/Carer's Social Club

A group of parents of children with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) who meet socially on a regular basis to chat, laugh and swap ideas and experiences. The events are advertised via a closed Facebook page.

We provide voluntary support for deaf children and their families who live in the Hull and District area. We are able to offer advice from parents of deaf children who have themselves been through the experience of bringing up a deaf child.

There are two groups:
Adults who have either Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, is a parent/carer or just has an interest in diabetes.

YPSG (York Parents Support Group for children and young adults with diabetes).
No regular meetings do organise events for children with diabetes who attend York Hospital.
